PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT

A psychosocial assessment is a thorough and comprehensive evaluation of an individual patient’s physical, mental, and emotional health, along with his ability to function within a community and perception of self. It is conducted by experts and is a tool to learn facts about a person, as well as determine present and future behavior. It is a very important part of every health care program that helps to set up a plan of management and action for the medical team (Spector, 2008).

Objectives of Psychological Assessment:

  1. The goals of psychological assessment are to better understand a person’s strengths and weaknesses, identify potential problems with cognitions, emotional reactivity, and make recommendations for treatment/remediation.

  2. The purpose of psychological testing is to gain a better understanding of a person and her/his behavior.

  3. Help employers make more informed hiring decisions.

  4. Guide hiring managers towards the types of personalities that would be more likely to succeed within the company.

  5. Determine the ability of potential employees to work under stressful conditions.

  6. Assess the potential and current employees to handle the job effectively under different conditions.

  7. Identify jobs with a high-stress factor.
